September Issue

I know its been a while since the September Issue has been out BUT I have finally got time too write the review about it.

When I first heard that they were documenting a movie of the 2008 Vogue September issue I was extremely excited and very eager to watch this film as soon as it hit the big screens. The documentary gave the audience a great insight of what goes on behind closed doors of the best-selling fashion magazine. I still ask myself how can one woman have so much power in the fashion industry?
Starring Anna Wintour, a strong powerful woman where fashion designers crave for her opinion on their latest collection. Not only does everyone listen too what she has too say but she says “what’s in” and “what’s out”. You would think no-one would have the guts too stand up too her but also starring in the documentary is Vogue’s Creative Director Grace Coddington not only being a former model but also one of the worlds greatest fashion stylists, does stand up for what she believes in. Although Anna still decides with the end decision what stays in and out of the magazine. Overall I personally really enjoyed this documentary with a few giggles here and there especially with Andre Leon Talley! I cannot wait to get my hands onto a DVD copy.

OK, so i know im extremely behind with my blogging but i have been incredibly busy finishing up my studies this year. This doesn't particularly mean I haven't been keeping up with Spring/Summer 2010 collections that was shown a few months ago. I have gathered some of my favorite pieces and collections together. I found this collection flowed really well especially with the clean cut edges and the different colours used throughout the collection, the shoes is a very cute touch to the look. I also think the bags looks great in all the different colours, i personally like the blue and yellow one.

As i was searching through google images i stumbled across this picture of Paris Hilton with a hair-do that looked very familiar.... Lady Gaga?? yes Lady Gaga and her famous bow hair-do, i love and appreciate her style but i think the fame is getting to her head.

The point is who looks better ?

Miss Hilton does give it that very classic look whereas Gaga gives it that extra edge unlike Miss Hilton. I personally prefer it on Lady Gaga...

Last week i purchased this vintage jacket on ebay, i always wanted a sequin jacket but always found it a bit hard to find in thrift stores from where i live.... i was stoked when i saw the abstract pattern and love the silver and black together, my package should arrive this week!

So theres been the discussion about jeggings (jean like leggings) weather they are a good look or not. Personally I think its the way how you style it.

For example Whitney Port looking casual with jeggings but definately can not pull it off as they are too short and doesnt particulary look good with the converse all stars. But i guess this outfit is quickly thrown together for a day out to play ball.

Unlike Whitney Port this girls jeggings has been really nicely put together!

You may think i am weird but this is very unusual for my city as it is usually always humid, sticky and hot!!! so its so nice to have a change and now i finally have an excuse to layer up the clothes yay

Patrick Wolf a London born musician and who is truly talented can play several instruments such as the piano, organ, viola, guitar, violin + more! That is seriously some musical talent going on there…I was browsing through some pictures of him and I find his style quite intriguing and I totally admire his colour change in his hair, but I must say I quite like the red/orange as it stands out the most and generally hair that colour is quite hard to co-ordinate with clothing but P.Wolf here can totally pull it off!

It also only came to my realization but Patrick Wolf modelled in the Burberry's fall 2007 fashion campaign…looking fabulous I must say!

So today I finally get my hands on the Lula magazine issue 8 featuring Chanel Iman on the front cover. As i stepped into the newsagent i couldnt see the magazine i wanted there, the man said they only had 2 copies in and i was pretty annoyed cause i remember seeing it there not too long ago but was waiting to recieve my pay before i purchased it. Having my fingers crossed as i walked down to another newsagent to my surprise they still had another 2 copies left yay!!!

My weekend started off with working for 8 hours running around on my feet serving customers that were doing last minute Mothers Day shopping... I was definately looking forward to my day off on Sunday at the Gold Coast at my brothers apartment!

I promised my Dad that I would be at the station for him to pick me up at 9am on Sunday for Mothers Day but due to a late night I slept right through my alarm clock till 9am!!! Immediately got ready and shot off to the station...

1. Nathan Jenden

I truly fell in LOVE with this collection when I first laid my eyes on it! I loved absolutely everything about it. It is also a very wearable collection and the skirt in the forth look from the left is just amazing it reminds me of paper origami artwork ... truly great collection, can't wait too see what he will have next for us :)

2. Stærk
I really appreciate the simplicity of this collection, the bold statements with the enormous brooch's is just the perfect touch to any classic look if your looking for that little edge!

3. House Of Holland

Henry Holland always seems to impress me with his collections, i loved how this collection flowed so smoothly and i loved how the colour starts off being dark on the garment and then slowly fades to a light pastel colour. Fantastic!

4. Karen Walker
The hats are adorable!! the dresses having a pattern like of rocks and pepple stones just seems to work so nicely in this collection, the colour palette seems to be so soft yet so bold.

5. Giles
Beautiful doll like pale skin with black lipstick another strong collection. This collection reminds me of dreamy artwork with lots of watercolours being used.... the cape, the dresses, the shoes, it just all works!

6. 3.1 Phillip Lim

I liked this collection because there is just so much detail to every look. Unlike most of the other designers in "my top ten" he hasn't made this collection flow very well, which is also another reason i like this collection because it is different and has many things incorparated into the one collection.

7. Dolce & Gabbana

I loved how they used classic colours and photographs on the garments, but the reason why i really admired this collection was the way they used the gloves as head pieces and scarves and it surprisingly made it work and flow throughout the collection quite well!

8. Jil Sander

What can i say? you can NEVER go wrong with something so simple with a sharp edge! This collection reminded me of playdough moulded into beautiful clothing, i love the bright splashes of yellows and oranges i think this is just simplicity at its best...

9. Rodarte

The Rodarte sisters are always coming up with extravagant designs which i adore. This collection just had so much detail in each piece, although i think nothing can beat their Fall 08, it was just too good that i cant even express it in words! i did however like the styling and slick hair of this current collection.

10. Matthew Williamson

The neck piece/scarf just looks fantastic, i can just picture myself in this on a breezy day! the colour mixture of red and black is my favorite but the blue and black is just as divine although i am more of a red/black girl and the zig-zags seems to make a bold statment in this collection.

As Fall 09 ready-to-wear goes by I noticed obvious statement pieces such as chunky necklaces. I have always had a soft spot for chunky necklaces here are a few pieces from the Fall 09.

Pastel Perfection

I decided to do a post all about Pastel as i find this has been quite a rare thing that hasnt been spoken about lately.

Dictionary.com defines Pastel as a color having a soft, subdued shade.

-perfect description of how to define the word.

As having fair skin i personally find it quite difficult to work with pastel colours, as it would wash out my skin and would not enhance the colour of my skin tone. I also find that pastel colors seem to work best on dark skin tones as it brings out the colour not only in the garment but also enhances the dark skin tone they have.

I have found many pastel purrrrfection pictures, it makes me re-think can i actually try and work it?

From my previous post i mentioned going to an antique store in Paddington, as i was browsing through that store i stumbled across some great telephones that i really want for my room now. There was a hamburger phone which i must say that was very CUTE ! it looked exactly like the picture below... i would've purchased this item however it cost $75 AUD which was quite expensive and couldnt afford it.

Ok, so i apologize for not posting anything up for a while! i dont even know where to start.....

went to melbourne for 5 days which was AWESOME! i am so shocked of how different melbourne is too brisbane!!
had work x-mas party- which was really fun!!!
on lemon detox diet... i feel very bad as i have been a hermit and not been going out this week! its hard let me tell u!
went to paddington and picked up some very nice vintage :D
have a rock/pop party next saturday so i need a costume soon.
i made it clear this year that i will not be buying any of my friends and family x-mas presents this year as i am very poor after my melbourne trip and is getting no hours from work unfortunately, its the spirit of x-mas that counts anyway! haha

As i trekked to paddington on Friday, i picked up some very nice vintage!!!!

i love the stripes and black lace on this top and the puffy seleves and love how the lace continues to the back which is amazing! this top is so beautifully detailed (it looks much better in real life than on camera)... i didnt even know it was Anthea Crawford until i paid for it. i was even more excited coz it meant i had a vintage Anthea Crawford top, now this is a peice to keep forever!

Mini pink top hat that i found at the antique store, i think this is adorable it just clips into your hair. it reminds me very much of Anna Piaggi!

Vintage glomesh bag from "posh poodle" in paddington, i love the colour and shape of this bag!

The weather is getting horrible here in brisbane it has been so humid! so i have been in air-conditioning 24/7 haha thank god! i am jealous of everyone that is in cool weather... i must be off now!!!

The weather has lately been unexpected! one minute its scorching hot and the next minute it would be windy and cool and then it would storm and hail! crazy eh??
well onto the fun side of things i purchased the Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair Plait Scarf (AW 08/09) i love it so much (so couture, so fierce!!) whenever its cool or windy here in brisbane i have to grab this scarf and make the most of it as 90% of the time here in brisbane its generally hot!!! ewwww i hate summer with a passion sorry to all you summer lovers..... ppl always ask me what are you doing in the sunshine state? i answer i dont know hahaha

We purchased this jacket from an op-shop for $1 !!!!! was a bargin i must say! the shoes are from a vintage store i remember when i first saw them i knew i just had to have them they remind me of dorothy from wizard of oz :)

This post will be about Halloween which was a few weeks back and what I purchased today......

Well i finally got a hold of some photos from the night my friends and i celebrated Halloween! Had so much fun, a few ppl dressed up and im sure everyone had a grand time at "Snitch" didnt get home till 4am in the morning and had work next morning at 9am hahaha well worth it.

Now onto what i purchased today...

Today i had work and as i was walking past the handbag department i stumbled across this studded bag which i have been looking for SO LONG! i was so excited and immediately picked it up and knew i just had to buy it :) i also bought some charms and necklaces from a little market stall inside the shopping centre i thought it was oh so cute!!

i am off to melbourne next Thursday so this weekend i will be staying in and not getting intoxicated for a change unless someone will shout me for the whole night hahaha i bought some fabric the other day so i am in the mood to make a few fun pieces yay!!

i adore everything that i chose for this outfit... something i would definitely wear on a bright sunny day! the weather is getting ridiculously hot here in brisbane! i really hate hot weather.... everyone just smells and sweats its so gross hence why i prefer the colder season! and you can have more fun dressing up!!

just a note - had work today and it was realllyyy busy i hate it when it gets too busy i can never get everything done, this lady returned a Diane Von Furstenberg dress it was really beautiful and it smelt soooooo bad like moth balls and it seemed like it had been sitting in her cupboard for ages.

Preppy or Punk?

PREPPY

Gossip Girl is the perfect example to describe the "preppy" appearance. Neat hair, cute headbands, tailored jackets and pants, cross-over ties, an oversized bag, collared blouses, V-neck sweaters and so on. These are the ingredients to a perfect school girl… what do I mean by the perfect school girl? Well behaved, smart, dates the hottest guy from school, pretty much the girl everyone wants to be and idolizes.

PUNK

Leather jackets, studs, crazy hair, pretty much everything opposite to the “preppy” look. This appearance will tend to give a vibe of "I’m to cool" and "you don’t wanna mess with me"...

The verdict:

both looks are awesome! but the punk look is kind of getting over-done… therefore PREPPY over PUNK!

P.s- what were my highlights of last week? lets just say last Thursday night was massive!!! was drunk from 6pm, went out and didnt get home till 4am and had work at 8.30am... i know what you're thinking she is crazy! hahaha and Saturday night i had some friends over and we went to the Regatta (its like a bar down from my house) and i must say that the girls and boys that went there were gross and dirty and it was honestly just a sleaze house and there was this bitch there that fully shoulder barge me i was pisssed and was like wateva! and yes she was wearing ugly shoes ewww.... and her toy boy was ugly too HAHA

D&G Spring 09

Milan Fashion Week started this week and what can i say D&G's ready to wear collection is INCREDIBLE! i loved absolutely everything!

I love the Gold fabric with the big bows it gave a really fun vibe to the outfit. From mini skirts, to knee length and ankle skirts they were all so beautiful. I also loved the dress with the oriental inspired fans over the chest, a design that is very unique and has something special about it that you can’t take your eyes off it.

I thought the high waisted pants were really fantastic because this look will lengthen your legs and flatter all the right bits of the body if it is styled correctly. My favourite were the stripy high waisted pants because I liked the colours that were used and the stripes should also help make your legs look thinner.

Ok we all have to admit that these three looks below are cute as!! The anchors and sailing boats give it that fresh spring feeling, and the fish nets definitely glam up the look and doesn’t make it look tacky thank god! My fav was the second one because I loved the sequins and bow above the anchor and the swimming inspired cap was awesome.

Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce, you did such a remarkable job! Well done :)

Retro Reminiscence

My weekend this week was pretty boring i just worked worked and worked! we just started our "October Event" sale and let me tell you the women go wild they try on several different outfits and only end up buying one or two pieces or nothing at all but the thing that really bothers me is they have no consideration of hanging the clothes back like they way they found it, this truly drives me insane! especially when its all on the floor with the clothes inside out, well enough about that anyway...

I just wanted to show you this picture i took about two months ago, it was a jacket i found at an op-shop i remember when i walked in and the first thing i noticed was this wonderful rare retro jacket and i just had to buy it!! the best thing about it is that it only cost me around $8(AUD).

Browsing through my old computer i found this adorable picture of my friends drinking goon in coffee cups.. i know how classy!!

Notice the LV scarves, my mum left them at my house earlier that day and my friends decided to wear them that night... oh god if mum found out she would be one unhappy woman she loves her LV!

Looking at the collection, I instantly thought that this was a great mix of big bold polka dots with soft floral prints with vibrant yellows and reds an excellent colour range and was definitely well put together. It was a rather wild collection yet still quite wearable. Nice Job Mr Henry Holland!

i love love loved the shoes used throughout the collection and found a really similar pair called "Bianca" by Bette Belle $220(AU).

Where do I even start? Agyness Deyn definitely one of the top supermodels in the fashion industry. My weekend begun on a late Saturday afternoon as soon as I had just finished work at 2pm they asked me to stay till 5pm but of course I couldn't not only because I purely didn't want to be there but I had some guests coming over before that. We started drinking wine first and ended the night with Absolut Vodka it was crazy!! I ended up finding something to wear aswell :) yay hahaha... We went past Valley Fiesta and it was ridiculously packed and was swarming with young teenagers so my friends and I went down in an alley way talking and drinking and watching the moon and we then headed back up to hit the town at "thriller" and "common people" in the city. Birthday Weekend

I had work today long shift from 8 till 5.30 i knowww crazyy! haha So its my birthday on Monday, which means I will be celebrating this weekend with my friends :D this will involve lots of dancing and drinking !!! Valley Fiesta this weekend aswell .... from the 12-14 of September for those of you who dont know what Valley Fiesta is its a street party where it involves food, fashion, art and music!! Some bands that will be feautred on the weekend include Winnie Coopers, Operator Please, The Gin Club, End of Fashion, Ajax, Katy Steele (Little Birdy) + more. i have absolutely NO IDEA what i will be wearing this weekend :( im really stressed about that. i also have work tomorrow from 9 till 2 thank god its not the whole day..i will be taking lots of photos this weekend so lookout for them.. oh and i really want these Miu Miu shoes their adorable and to die for!!

Pretty Face to Scary Face?

Willow and I went to the movies last night and finally saw "The Strangers". Hearing everyone talk up the movie and how scary it was ... I definitely must say it was NOT scary at all. Famous Australian model Gemma Ward starred in this movie and played a role where she was a killer... I prefer seeing her gorgeous face on the runway rather than a mask on her face for the entire movie. I give this movie a rating 2 out of 5 stars. The movie dragged on too much it was a disappointing movie for me unfortunately.

Marc Jacobs Spring 09

Browsing through the collection my first thought was wow this is really cool... I loved the interesting combinations he was putting together, it felt like he had put too much together but still gave it that unusual touch that made me like it in a very confused kind of way. I like the way he used all different kind of colours and textures in the collection like the metallic, pastel, bright yellows, plaid, charcoals and greys it was great! The hats definitely gave it the finishing spring touch and they were so cute :)

I didnt particularly like this last one shown here, only because i feel like it will flaunt all the wrong bits....

Mr Jacobs you definately earned the thumbs up from me and you definately pulled off the man-skirt really well.

I'll Kill Her

Last year while tuning through the radio stations Triple J was playing a song that drew attention to us immediately, and then mentioned at the end of the song it was by a singer Winter and I had never heard of.

The song ‘I’ll Kill Her’ by ‘Soko’ had become an addiction to our ears instantly, it was all I would listen to on the way to school and when I came home.

Soko was actually named as Stephanie Sokolinski but only being known as Soko since her first memory. Born in France she started out as an actress and starred in several French movies then mentioned to her film makers she wanted to sing – on camera.

The song became a hit in Denmark and then soon discovered by Australia. It even scored a spot on ‘Triple J’s Hottest 100 – January 2008’ and came in 9th place. It was also used in 2007 for Stella McCartney’s show at the Paris Fashion Week.

Soko often seems to speak rather than sing in the song, also hearing numerous rumours that the singer doesn’t even speak English however we love the song, the beat, lyrics and everything about it. Check it out if you already haven’t.

Diane von Fursternberg Spring 09

Looking at her Spring 09 ready-to-wear collection it gave me a very laid back rock glamour feel. Throughout the collection she had her models wearing silk flowers and feathers on leather strands which was very cute and gave it a soft touch to the outfit. She also incorporated wide-brim floppy hats which I thought was quite sloppy because it lost the vibe of the theme of being a "Rock Goddess" it gave more of a hippy feel rather than a "Rock Goddess" feel. However I did absolutely love the colour range used throughout the collection, whites and reds, burnt oranges, bright yellows and blues and so on. To sum it up it was a satisfying collection for me.

Fathers Day Weekend

This weekend started with a new location at the “Step Inn” at Fortitude Valley the event was called ‘STOLEN’ a place with danceable music. It began with pre-drinks at my house with a wonderful bottle of Raspberri Absolut Vodka mmmm very smooth I must say. We had an excuse to wear our new vintage out so it was lots of fun to dress up and head out for a night of fun and continued the next day shopping in the city. Sunday was Fathers day and we were delighted to have dinner at a Mongolian resturant just down the road from our house.

Little Heroes

A couple of nights ago Winter and I went to our little brother’s showcase night at his school - St Bernadine’s in Browns Plains which is a small suburban town south of Brisbane. The night was about heroes and champions that have helped the world and evolve into how it is today. The 7th grade children had to dress up as their given hero and study information on them. The parents and friends are then are invited to look at their posters and outfit’s and encouraged to ask questions to the youngsters.

What seemed to be the most interesting aspect of the night were the wonderful costumes of some of the kids. The amount of effort put into some of the costumes was great and really paid off well. It was so fascinating to see young children dress so out of the ordinary and they looked hot. Although the kids might have just seen it as olden day attire or something they would never wear in public, Winter and I thought that the costumes like those could be worn on a daily basis, and not just for children but anyone who enjoyed the cute ribbons, bow ties and top hats.

So here are some snaps we were able to take to remind us how cute everyone looked - but these were some of our favourites we just had to share.

Karen Walker Spring 09

While looking at the collection of Karen Walker Spring 09 ready-to-wear I wasn't 100% impressed... but getting towards the end of the collection i was liking it more and more.

I personally think her Spring 09 collection was quite moderate, it was tomboyish with a dash of feminity. In this collection there were cropped pants which was very clean cut and classic looking which i did like, tailored jackets, white summery dresses, big weave hats....... and so on. So atm im working at a big retail department store called David Jones, just got home about an hour ago and my feet are soreeee as hell :( served some bitchy customers but you get that hrmmmm riverfire tomorrow so ill be definately be getting intoxicated and having a great time however the morning after wont be very pretty as i am known to get some of the worst hangoversss hehe

i saw a veryyy edgy lady today she reallyyy stoood out from the crowd as she was wearing purple tights with a very cuteee pastel coloured taliored suit with all different colours on it and the best part about it was she looked like she was in her mid 30's to early 40's i think we should definately have more mature age woman not being afraid to dress in bold and different colours it would be fantastic to see a change, honestly whooo cares if someone stares at you their probably just jealous and just one last note if ur afraid of being overdressed remember to ask urself this..... wouldnt you rather be overdressed than underdressed???

Some of you might be sitting there reading this blog thinking who on earth is isabella blow??!!

All I can say is she is one of the greatest fashion icons that has entered in the magical world of the fashion industry. Isabella Blow was known to discover great talent... discovering the models stella tennant and Sophie Dahl but my personal favorite the great designer Alexander McQueen. Isabella Blow bought the first whole collection of Alexander McQueen.

During 2007 on May 6 Isabella Blow was announced dead, she had taken her own life by drinking weedkiller and was found on the bathroom floor. She was truly a great woman and has inspired many fashion designers till this day forward and will never be forgotten in the fashion industry.
